Teaching International Class in Poland, UMM Lecturer Taught the Implementation of Islamic Human Resources Management

It is common to teach foreigners in Indonesia. But, what happens if a lecturer of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) teaches in abroad. Sri Budi Yuli, SE, M, a lecturer of Diploma Finance and Banking, Faculty of Economics and Business UMM would share her experience when she was teaching in Poland. She awarded Erasmus+ Programme: Staff Mobility for Teacher, which is a scholarship for academic staffs in order to have teaching experience in Europe for a week. According to the research for her dissertation, Sri taught Islamic Work Ethics, Islamic Human Resources Management and Islamic Organizational Culture for international class in WSB University in Poznan, Poland (3-10/6). On Tuesday (19/6), she revealed, “There are 15 students in one class. They are from various countries such as Ukraine, Kenya, Kyrgyztan and Bangladesh”.

The students were very interested in the perspective of Islamic Human Resources Management taught by Sri. She said, “They asked many questions about what Islamic perspective is like and why I relate management to it. What I taught is new to them”.

Furthermore, Sri used UMM as the example of case study for teaching. UMM has implemented Islamic Work Ethics which is in accordance Islamic values, Quran, and Hadith. “The process of human resources management which is implemented in UMM started from recruitment system, selection, work assessment, training and development, and compensation system. Besides, Islamic organizational culture in UMM has been in accordance with Islamic values, which are shiddiq, tabligh, and fathonah”.

Although it was only for a week, teaching in WSB University in Poznan, Poland was a great experience for Sri. “They are very active students, they asked me many questions about Islamic human resources management and Islamic Organizational Culture which they never learned before”. (lus)
