Viewing the tracks of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang as a successful national event organiser, the National Achievement Centre (Translated: Pusat Prestasi Nasional) entrusted UMM to be the host of the 35th National Student Scientific Week event (Translated: Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional). Dr Nur Subeki, S. T., M. T., the Vice Rector III of Student and Alumni Affairs of UMM, expressed the idea. The prestigious event lasted four days, from 30th November until 3rd December.
The 35th PIMNAS raised the theme, “The Development of Students’ Creativity and Innovation Based on Digital Transformation towards Golden Indonesia 2045”. The participating students would compete for their creativity and innovation in this remarkable event, which involves many universities in Indonesia. In total, there were 1700 competing participants from 97 universities to win the championship.
Subeki uttered, “UMM as the institution under the country will always get ready to contribute in conducting national events although there are other host candidates. However, UMM can be considered as the readiest and spriest university to organise this esteemed event. Eventually, the parties from Puspresnas selected UMM hoping that this program could go smoothly.”
Eki, his familiar nickname, continued further that the selection process of UMM as the host has passed the specification and criterion that has been agreed upon. To be the organiser of the PIMNAS event, a set of them had to be ready with complete facilities, infrastructures, and health treatment preparedness. The University of Muhammadiyah Malang has fulfilled those requirements since it has a UMM Dome and three hotels to accommodate the national event participants.
The University of Muhammadiyah Malang even has a particular hospital related to health treatment. The White Campus also has ready and spry volunteers to stand by and prepare medicine and health equipment, especially in the increasing case of the pandemic. In addition, as the event host, UMM needs to provide sufficient Student Creativity Programs (Translated: PKM) during the ongoing PIMNAS event.
Eki asserted, “As the host, UMM, of course, must succeed in applying the 3Ps: penyelenggaraaan (management), prestasi (achievement), and publikasi (publikasi). Hence, the PIMNAS event not only would not be a monotonous competition but also an entertaining activity. Hopefully, with this event, there will be more innovations from youth which can really contribute to society.”.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Committee of the 35th PIMNAS event, Dr Hariyadi, S. Pi., M. Si. explained that this year’s PIMNAS event gave advantages to its participants. One of them is the digitalised system, starting from online registration, barcode use, and paper use reduction whilst the competition.
He concluded, “Digitalisation becomes more crucial because we want everything to be more controlled and efficient. Paper reduction is used to preserve the environment. I expect this event to gather the best, young individuals who have scientific achievements. I hope that the participants of the 35th PIMNAS of UMM can jointly advance and synergise to generate creative, excellent, and innovative work.” (imh/zak/wil)
