Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) University of Muhammadyah Malang will continue cooperating with College of Law, Government and International Studies (COLGIS) University of Utara Malaysia (UUM). Both universities have been cooperating for 2 years and will hold international seminar with the theme of “Opportunities and Challenges of Indonesia and Malaysia” on Tuesday, November 10 at the Hall of AR Fachruddin Mosque of UMM.
The seminar is held as the preparation in facing the Asian Economic Society (MEA). “This is the second year of the cooperation between UMM and UUM,” asserted by Hevi Kurnia Hardini, SIP, MA.Gov, the Chief of committee of the international seminar.
Havi said that the event is also the form of the cooperation between UMM and UUM. “MEA is ahead of us. There is only one market. Both Indonesia and Malaysia have much similarities. That’s why this seminar is truly beneficial,” asserted by Hevi, a lecturer of Governmental Study.
“This is the first step to face the MEA, from Malaysia and Indonesia universities. Later, we will cooperate with Thailand, Philippine, and the other South East Asian countries,” Hevi asserted.
UMM lecturer, Dr. Nur Syakiran Akmal Ismail, stated that the cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia was prepared as the long-term cooperation. He said that building South East Asian studies in the perspective of ASEAN Community is the main target.
“We have been referring to the publications of western countries for the issues of ASEAN even the one who should raise ASEAN issues is ourselves. We can take that role so our publications will influence the international issues,” asserted by Nur who got his PhD at University of Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
South East Asian countries will form an integrated community named ASEAN Community as European countries have European Union. Hence, the cooperation between ASEAN countries is seen as the strategic cooperation. (dik/zul/han/t_rfd)
