The Young Intellectuals Network of Muhammadiyah (JIMM) cooperated with Islamic Studies and Philosophy Center University of Muhammadiyah Malang (PSIF UMM) held National Thought Agenda entitled “Rebranding Muhammadiyah: Dialogue of Authenticity and Change in Muhammadiyah Thought and Movement” in Senate Court Room on Wednesday (23-24/5) 2018.
Rector of UMM, Fauzan revealed that this agenda was important to Muhammadiyah because there is always a debate about ideological regarding to thought and movement. Fauzan said, “Muhammadiyah needs this agenda. It will be good if we often hold this kind of agenda especially in Ramadhan month”.
One of the keynote speech, Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, M.A who is from Muhammadiyah Higher Education Council revealed that Muhammadiyah youth should have skills while the institutional purity values are still existed. Sudarnoto said, “The authenticity is an important part to Muhammadiyah. It means original, genuine, and purity”.
Moreover, Sudarnoto stated that Muhammadiyah has to focus on contributing innovatively in facing problems and obstacles. “Those problems can be caused by people or international society”. Nowadays, there are many Islamic movements or Islamic organizations simply needs to survive just by holding ordinary agendas. Most of them do not have new things to contribute to society. “We noted that there are many social or politics organizations suddenly disappear”.
There were 2018 participants joined this agenda. 32 of them presented their papers. They were from various regions in Indonesia such as Central Java, East Java, Papua, and Sulawesi. Meanwhile, the topic discussed was about Muhammadiyah Movement in New Era: Opportunity and Obstacle, Muhammadiyah and Internalization of Islamic Thought, The Movement of Peace and the cons of Radical Movement, and the Actualization of Muhammadiyah Digital Jihad in this Era.
