University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has a right to run foster campus program in accordance with the Decree of Directorate General of Learning and Student Affair of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenristek RI) Number 99/ b / sk / 2018 about Quality Guarantee Program. UMM fosters five private universities in Region VII and Region VIII of the coordination of private universities.
UMM signed Memorandum of Understanding, socialization, and Need Assessment of foster campus program of excel campuses Dirjen Belmawa Kemenristek RI with six universities, which are University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya, University of Islam Balitar, Kahuripan Kediri University, Academy of Pharmacy Puta Indonesia Malang, Academy of Pharmacy and Food Analysis Puta Indonesia Malang, and Bumigora Mataram Foreign Language School.
Vice Rector I UMM, Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin Msi conveyed that UMM and those six universities will cooperate and complete each other. Syamsul expected that this program will be beneficial for UMM and six universities yet keep struggling to improve the quality of each university. Syamsul said, “Thank you very much for cooperating with UMM. I hope that we will continue to cooperate in order to improve the quality of our universities”.
According to Syamsul, there are three things that need to be considered to improve the quality of a university. The first is availability and adequacy. The second is qualification. Lecturers should at least have master degree or more to teach in a university. The third is competency. Syamsul said, “The competency can be seen by lecturers, expert assistants, lector, head lector and professor. During this time, UMM is implementing discipline, seriousness, and being role model. These are important for university development”.
Meanwhile, the Head of Bumigora Mataram Foreign Language School (STIBA), Wiya Suktiningsih, M.Hum conveyed that STIBA wants to learn from UMM, especially about the quality assurance knowledge because STIBA only joins workshops without practicing the assessment required. Wiya said, “We hope that we can improve the accreditation of STIBA because until now STIBA is still accredited C. Besides, we want to gain knowledge how to be like UMM in the future”. (lus)
