The Millenial and Z generations strategically developed the nation's bright future. The chief of East Java Regional Police (Kapolda) of Indonesia Republic, Irjen Pol. Dr. Toni Harmanto, M.H., emphasized it in the opening of the New Student Studies Introduction (Pesmaba) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on September 12. In front of more than 6,000 new students, he explained the potential and challenges that young people will probably face.

"All of you must have extraordinary potential. Success cannot be achieved easily, there must be a steep road. So, my message is never give up, even if you fall many times. Moreover, you are currently studying at UMM, which is known for its qualified and supported learning environment," he remarked.

The important role of young people is also supported by the Indonesia's great potential. Meanwhile, the development of this potential is also faced with challenges. Political challenges, for example, at the 2024 Democratic Party. According to Toni, there will be a lot of political interests that lead to negative impacts. Hoaxes and black campaigns are likely to emerge and divide the nation.

"Corruption is also another issue that must be handled well. Similarly with drugs, the drug crisis, social inequality, religious issues, as well as security and terrorism. As a result, as passionate and innovative young people, you must be able to utilize all the potential that exists. At the same time, you must be able to overcome the challenges that come your way," he said.

On that occasion, the alma mater was pinned to the chief of East Java Police, making him an honorary UMM citizen. Following that, the helicopter's appearance gave a flight over the UMM white campus, congratulating new students.

Meanwhile, UMM Rector Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd, conveyed something interesting in the Dome. He said that UMM had implemented a mechanism for graduating without a thesis in 2018. Even before the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Mendikbudristek RI) issued a thesis policy is no longer necessary for graduation.

"UMM has used an equivalency mechanism with various achievements owned by students to replace the thesis," he explained.

Fauzan assessed that students' potential and talents are undoubtedly numerous and diverse. It must be considered seriously by educational institutions. Therefore, UMM always provides the best facilitation for growing up all potential. One of the highlights is the Center of Excellence, which is based on study programs and flexible community service schemes.

"UMM is able to provide a 3.5-4 year graduation guarantee for its students through various existing mechanisms. The KKN mechanism for community service can be done since the second semester and the final project mechanism replaces a variety of theses. It can be with academic and non-academic achievements, "he concluded. (Faq/Wil/Fajr)
