It is essential to improve foreign language skills to enter the global world. This was conveyed by Dr. Sri Hartiningsih, MM, Head of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Foreign Language Course (KBA) Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). Therefore, to facilitate the development of language skills, UPT.KBA students held seven foreign language courses.
Harti, as she is familiarly called, explained that this foreign language course includes Arabic, English, Japanese, German, Mandarin, Korean, and French courses. This course is open to the general public and not limited to the campus community.
"Unlike other courses, KBA UMM offers many choices in learning foreign languages. In addition, the lecturers at KBA UMM are also experienced teachers in their fields. We also limit the number of participants for each class so that the learning atmosphere is conducive. The course fees we offer are also affordable, and that can do the registration and payment system online," said the lecturer from Malang.
Furthermore, Harti explained that in the KBA course, there are regular and private classes. The standard class has two meetings a week, totaling 14 meetings. At the same time, the private class has ten sessions with a schedule they can arrange according to the participants' needs.
"The number of participants in each class is minimal. For private classes, there are a maximum of four participants. At the same time, the regular class is filled with 12 participants. They will also reduce this amount again during practical classes. Practical classes cannot exceed ten participants, so for regular classes, we usually split into two," explained the lecturer in the English Education Department.
Besides learning and communication, KBA has other programs to improve students' abilities. Harti said that UMM KBA has teaching programs, interviews, and initial tests for foreign language competencies. In addition, KBA UMM also received cooperation in the form of language training for schools and institutions.
"So far, English and Korean courses are the most popular. Usually, the registered participants aim to continue their studies or work abroad. I hope that in the future, KBA UMM can synergize with campus internationalization activities such as sandwich programs, Erasmus, overseas internships, and studying abroad," said the lecturer born in 1964 end.
