The role of youth in advancing the nation is substantial. Not only now, but also during the colonization of Indonesia in the past. That was confirmed directly by the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), Police General Drs. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, M.Si., in his scientific speech at the closing of the Introduction of New Student Studies (Pesmaba) Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM). He also closed the UMM Pesmaba, which was held on September 15 at the UMM Dome Hall.
"Young people, including new UMM students, must have technical competence, ethics, and also a good leadership spirit. He pointed out one of the factors in increasing the human development index (HDI) is the high quality of the youth. Every year, the HDI of Indonesia sees an increase. For example, in 2018, the figure reached 71.39 percent and rose to 72.91 percent in 2023. This proves that Indonesia's quality of human resources (HR) continues to increase.
Furthermore, he said that the role of youth is substantial for the Indonesian nation. Since the colonial period, the struggle for Indonesia's independence has been centered on maintaining integrity. This proves that youth is the main key to maintaining the nation. "Youth has always played a vital role. For example, we can consider the history of Indonesian independence. There were numerous ideas from the youth that had a significant effect. Starting from Budi Utomo, the youth pledge, and Rengasdengklok incident," he added.

On that occasion, Listyo Sigit also provided tips for new students on how to develop a leader's mentality in global competition. They must be able to sharpen their potential in order to compete at the global level. In addition, they must be brave to show their talents in various international events. Likewise, the participation of young people in the fight against drugs and extremism is essential.
"Study hard, create new ideas and innovations. That way, all of you will also contribute to realizing the vision of the Golden Indonesia 2024," he concluded.
On the other hand, UMM Rector Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., explained that his parties have provided various excellent programs to form students into strong human beings. Among them are leadership formation programs through Student Day, presenting experts in certain fields, and quality skill provision. There is also the Personality and Leadership Formation Program (P2KK), which all students must follow to create the best personal quality.
"We also have a Center of Excellence (CoE) and a Center for Future Work that works directly with the World of Business and Industry (DUDI). That way, students can master skills that are in accordance with market demands. This is also one of our many efforts to answer the challenges and realize the vision of a Golden Indonesia 2045," he concluded. (Faq/Wil/Fajr)
