The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has made another breakthrough. Most recently, UMM launched a Pusat Pendidikan dan Pelatihan (Pusdiklat) in disaster education and training in the health sector on October 16. The existence of this Pusdiklat strengthens the work of the White Campus, which is always present to help the community when experiencing disasters. Starting from floods, earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, and others.
Speaking of this event, UMM Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si, explained that this training center will discuss and implement from upstream to downstream. Not only focusing on materials and discussions and thoughts, but also actually acting in anticipating and controlling the effects of disasters.

“The launching and symposium are expected to provide new insights, inspiration, and readiness in tackling and recovering from the effects of disasters that arise. Anything that happens due to nature or human negligence needs to be examined in order to determine the extent of our ability to cope with it,” he said.
Nazar, his nickname, said that anticipation efforts must indeed be considered. He gave an example of how all buildings and facilities at UMM are insured. Then, the White Campus also has a mechanism in the event of a disaster. Starting from gathering points, evacuation routes, and so on.
The establishment of this disaster training center in the health sector cannot be separated from the work and efforts that UMM has done. One of them is how UMM's general hospital was able to handle COVID-19, which occurred several years ago. They have successfully helped reduce the number of virus spreads and increase the potential for patient recovery. In fact, UMM RSU successfully received an award from the East Java government.

"During COVID-19, we have a good system for treating it. It includes providing a place for isolation, providing vitamins, a hospital roof for sunbathing, and techniques for collecting and sending logistics. We have even made our own PPE. So the presence of this training center will certainly strengthen the system and the work of UMM, “he said.
UMM also has a disaster management community, namely Mahasiswa Relawan Siaga Bencana (Maharesigana), which has been involved in various disaster locations for a long time, helping various residents, not only in physical aspects, but also helping disaster survivors to get back on their feet psychologically. The facilities and infrastructure of this pusdiklat are also exceptionally good. Being able to provide a shelter, excellent human resources for maharesigana, a team of doctors from UMM Hospital, and involving MDMC Muhammadiyah. Completed with qualified infrastructure, the UMM Pusdiklat is expected to be at the forefront of helping others. (wil/put)
