UMM and East Java Police Sign Cooperation Agreement to Strengthen and Enhance Human Resource Quality Through Higher Education (Photo : Special) |
The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) and the East Java Police (Polda) signed a cooperation agreement on October 4, 2024. One of the key aspects discussed was the strengthening and enhancement of human resources (HR) through higher education. This collaboration also aims to reinforce UMM's role in supporting the broader community.
Regarding this collaboration, East Java Police Chief Irjen Pol Imam Sugianto stated that this effort is part of their initiative to improve HR. Therefore, working with universities is one of the paths forward. UMM is considered to have the necessary quality and is trusted to provide excellent education. He hopes that police personnel can complete their undergraduate and master's degrees at UMM.

“I also urge the rector of UMM and the academic community to jointly maintain order, especially in ensuring a peaceful and fair environment during the upcoming democratic festivities, particularly in East Java,” he said.
On the other hand, UMM Rector Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si. expressed that UMM and the police share a remarkable bond. Since its inception, Muhammadiyah has declared its commitment to supporting the government, stating that the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) is non-negotiable. Thus, UMM will always support and assist the police in various aspects. The university is also ready to collaborate on HR development utilizing its various strengths.
“We are always prepared to engage in all available dimensions. UMM is very open to collaboration with Polda Jatim. The acceleration of high-quality HR is indeed necessary across various sectors, including the police, making cooperation with the campus a strategic step. Additionally, we are always open to collaborating in research, security, community service, and other areas,” he stated.

Furthermore, UMM has been actively engaged in maintaining peace and security in the community. For example, in addressing issues such as drug prevention, violence, and more. UMM has also contributed to the development of human resources in correctional institutions, including training in writing, creating works, compiling books, community gatherings, and other activities.
