FILANTRA, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Studies Program of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), successfully conducted a Social Return on Investment (SROI) Training at Rayz Hotel UMM. Held on February 19, the event was attended by 15 state-owned and private companies committed to strengthening the sustainable implementation of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies.
UMM Rector, Prof. Dr. Nazarudin Malik, S.E., M.Si., officially opened the training. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of social investment as a company's strategic effort in maintaining business sustainability. In addition, it also creates a positive impact on society.
“Well-managed social investment is not only a corporate responsibility, but also a long-term asset that strengthens the company's competitiveness and reputation in the midst of current global dynamics,” said Nazar.
This training was designed not only to enhance participants' understanding of SROI but also to provide an intensive discussion platform for developing measurable and impactful CSR strategies. Through case studies and hands-on practice, participants are expected to effectively implement SROI in their respective companies. SROI is a method for measuring the social, environmental, and economic impact of a program and can be used to evaluate the success of CSR initiatives.
SROI can help in various aspects. For example, it can help understand the social value of the program, help investors make the right investment decisions, and encourage positive changes to society and the environment. This method is also expected to provide an understanding of the knowledge of what social impacts will occur and what strategies should be used.
SROI is guided by key principles, including stakeholder engagement, understanding and valuing the changes that occur, and recognizing what truly matters. Additionally, SROI must be transparent and consistently conduct environmental verification of its outcomes.
On the other hand, FILANTRA Manager Azlia stated that the trust of FILANTRA’s 133 partners has been a key driver for continuous innovation and collaboration with various educational institutions. “We are proud to partner with renowned universities, including Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. This collaboration is clear proof that synergy between the business world and academia can create effective and sustainable social solutions,” said Azlia.

A similar sentiment was expressed by the Head of the Social Welfare Studies Program, Dr. Fauzik Lendriyono, M.Si., who stated that the collaboration with FILANTRA is one of the most productive national partnerships, supporting the program through practical training, internships, and professional courses. Moving forward, this partnership will be expanded to include collaborative research, the establishment of certification institutions, and innovative projects aimed at enhancing students' skills and competencies in supporting community welfare.
With this spirit of collaboration, FILANTRA and the UMM Social Welfare Studies Program remain committed to delivering innovative programs that promote inclusive and sustainable social development. (*/wil/Ind)
