Enhancing Islamic piety and commitment to Muhammadiyah are two simple yet crucial statements. This was emphasized directly by the Chairman of Muhammadiyah's Central Leadership, Prof. Dr. K.H. Haedar Nashir, M.Si., during a Study Session for Faculty and Staff at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on July 3.

"Saying it is easy, but implementing it is not simple. Therefore, it requires increased attention from all of us," he emphasized.

Furthermore, Haedar, as he is affectionately known, also asserted that current social situations are undergoing massive changes. This poses a unique challenge in practicing and internalizing Islamic principles. Many individuals find it challenging to maintain their Islamic lifestyle amidst increasingly complex societal dimensions. Thus, during the session, he provided an example of practicing Islam starting from the family unit.

"Islamic piety needs good reactualization, which can start from the family. Especially considering how complex societal life has become, the family is like a canopy that shelters from the scorching heat of the sun," he added.

The canopy that Haidar refers as a shelter, a home for rest and reflection of heart and energy. He warned about the dangers of families lacking such a 'canopy,' especially those with high productivity outside the home. Therefore, it is crucial for spouses to create an atmosphere of tranquility, love, and mercy (sakinah mawaddah warahmah).

"Nowadays, various concepts related to household affairs emerge, from emancipation to debates about rights, and so on. While these are positive developments, we must ensure they do not erode our subconscious and cause us to neglect our respective obligations. Moreover, these concepts often originate from neo-Marxist ideas that are not well-understood," he explained.

He reminded that Islam promotes balance, such as between habluminallah (relationship with God) and habluminannas (relationship with people), or the concept of effort (ikhtiar) and trust in God's will (tawakkal). These cosmopolitan dimensions are essential for collective understanding.

"In addition to our relationship with the Creator, we also interact with fellow human beings. Especially regarding the command of striving and trusting in God's plan. This balance is the essence of Islam; there's no need to hesitate in embracing its concepts and values," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Nazzarudin Malik, M.Si., the Rector of UMM, highlighted that the "White Campus," as one of Muhammadiyah's efforts, also plays a role in Islamic propagation. UMM has been consolidating its organization, infrastructure, and human resources to better cope with changes in higher education. Beyond mere competition, UMM aims to make a distinct impact, especially under the auspices of Muhammadiyah.

"Through UMM, may we bring greater blessings to our surrounding environment. The spirit of moderation and 'wasathiah' that we uphold as members of Muhammadiyah should continue to manifest well in all forms, both in verbal (words) and non-verbal (actions) propagation," he concluded.  (faq/wil/fajr)
