The Kommaksi event (Communication UMM in Action) organized by the Communication Studies program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) closed the month of October with great enthusiasm. The event featured a variety of activities, including a colour pound on October 26 that was attended by hundreds of participants, an art exhibition, talk shows with national influencers, and an award ceremony on October 30-31. This year, Kommaksi took place at Begawan and captured the public's attention.
This event aligns with the vision of the Communication Studies program at UMM, which aims to nurture creative, communicative, and collaborative human resources. Moreover, the Communication Studies program at UMM has obtained international accreditation from FIBA-A. Nasrullah, S.Sos, M.Si., the head of the Communication Studies program, explained that Kommaksi is an appreciation for students who have worked hard during challenging practical sessions.
"Kommaksi was on hiatus due to the previous Covid-19 pandemic. This motivated our students to come back and organize it with a more vibrant concept," he said.

Meanwhile, during the talk show session, two successful UMM Communication Studies alumni who have become influencers shared their experiences. Wawa Yasaruna, an announcer and content creator, and Arul Dagul, a video gaming creator, spoke about how becoming an influencer is surprisingly "easy."
"I have always loved traveling since I was a child. Eventually, I started documenting all my journeys. Who would have thought? Now I am a vlogger in the field of travel," Wawa shared.
In her experienced, the success she enjoys today results from the dedication she puts into her work. Her passion for traveling has also paved the way for her career, and she is now a brand ambassador for Traveloka. Despite her popularity, she faces criticism and negative comments. "I don't even follow people around me. I feel I can explore myself and express my creative ideas without fear of criticism," Wawa added.

Arul reflected similar sentiments. With 240 thousand YouTube subscribers and 34 thousand Instagram followers, he believes it all started from a hobby. He loves gaming, and being a gamer, according to him, is incredibly enjoyable.
"To be honest, before I focused on creating gaming content, I explored many hobbies and passions. I begin from journalism, editor, to stand-up comedy. The key is to experiment until you find something that resonates with you," Arul advised.
The exciting lineup of events at Kommaksi garnered special attention from students and visitors. Ayunda Pinkan, one of the participants, found the event to be fun and enjoyable. She even received an award with her team in the audiovisual category 2. They successfully created a public service advertisement related to the batik program in collaboration with Batik Mojo, located in Daerah Kepanjen, Malang Regency.
"We chose batik as the subject for our audiovisual project because it turns out that batik canting can prevent stress and depression. We invited people to do batik together for about three months and received a positive response," she explained. (Rin/Ri/Wil/Fajr)
