Legal reform has a vital role in social development. It was conveyed by Ambeg Paramarta, S.H., M.Si., who was present representing the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia at the International Conference on Law Reform (INCLAR) last Friday (23/7). The conference, entitled Understanding Law Reform on Post Covid-19 Pandemic, was held by the Faculty of Law, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), for the third time.
Furthermore, Ambeg said that legal reform depends on social changes in society. The Covid pandemic is a moment for reflection, especially on the legal aspects that have an effect.
He encouraged the participants of INCLAR UMM to walk together and work hand in hand in facing change. According to him, legal changes are dominated by two variables during the pandemic. Among these are public security risks and economic recovery.
"Those two variables have contributed to changes in the law in anticipating the recent pandemic. Of course, there needs to be coordination and cooperation from various lines to be able to deal with swift changes, especially in the legal field," he said.
On the same occasion, Vice Chancellor I of UMM, Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Si., felt happy with the efforts of FH UMM, which was able to take care of this international conference. This agenda can strengthen the academic tradition that UMM always encourages to contribute to the problems that occur in the community.
He considered that this international conference should not end just like that. There must be outputs and outcomes that are thought out and can be delivered—for example, papers that can be published, workshops, or other training after this conference. "Hopefully, an interesting agenda like this can continue to be implemented and carried out. Not only for FH UMM, but also the entire academic community," added Syamsul.
It was noted that there were one hundred papers from various parts of the world that the INCLAR committee accepted. Starting from Japan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Algeria, Indonesia, and a series of others. Even with the presenters from various countries. Call it Dr. Fernando Arlettaz from Universidad de Zaragoza Spain, Prof. Olver Fuo from South Africa, and Dr. Nor Anita Abdullah from Universiti Utara Malaysia.
Sholahuddin Alfatih appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants as the chief executive. According to him, this further spurred the committee to maintain this academic tradition. Moreover, several universities serve as co-hosts for sending five or more papers related to this theme. One of the most was the University of Gorontalo which sent 38 papers and several participants to Malang.
"Hopefully, the participants can better understand legal reform, especially in the post-pandemic period like this. Even with the determination of which regulations are appropriate in overcoming various problems," he concluded. (cdr/wil)
