The University of Muhammadiyah Malang enhances its quality again. Recently, the Indonesian Language Education Department of UMM from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education successfully received an excellent accreditation. The accolade is written in the Independent Educational Accreditation Institution Decree in serial number 667/SK/LAMDIK/Ak/S/XI/2022. The serial number of the decree is valid until 2027.
During the interview, the Head of the Indonesian Language Education Department, Arif Setiawan, M. Pd., explained that the gained award was due to the preparation of good forms and smooth field assessments. This achievement is considered to be able to set the commitments of the department staff to be a leading major and to give the best education service.
He feels that this predicate reflects that the culture of the Indonesian Language Education Department has fulfilled the nine work standards established by the SN-Dikti. Also, the standards have indicated the achieved three obligations. In total, sixty percent of lecturers have been a professor, fourteen are pursuing a doctoral degree, and the others have earned a master’s degree. Furthermore, the Indonesian Language Education Department already has a professor with expertise in Indonesian language teaching and learning.
“We realize that an excellent future generation can exist if we also have prime human resources. Then, the quality of lecturer, teaching process, infrastructure, and program always becomes our focus,” asserted Arif.
Interestingly, research and community service can integrate into this department's existing learning system. Hence, it can make him develop research novelty and relevancy. As a result, more than 582 lecturers and students’ works were published nationally and internationally. The recording number of citations even gets higher, which is 1748.
“The intellectual property we obtain is far from the established minimum standard. There are 38 intellectual properties we gain, and they are dominated by lecturers and students’ works as external lecture assets. Our effort was also appreciated by assessors in the field assessment yesterday,” elaborated Arif.
Besides combining research and community service with an international concept, this study program also has another special strategy: thesis equivalent. Its students can do many activities to graduate without needing to write an undergraduate thesis. One is publishing attractive works.
“Although we have earned a prime accreditation, we will always prepare ourselves to obtain the international accreditation of FIBAA so that people can believe that the Indonesian Language Education Department of UMM has good quality and generates eligible human resources as well,” ended Arif.
