It is undeniable that relations between countries significantly impact economic, social, political, and cultural sustainability. It affects the formation of a multicultural society that also affects the growth of Human Resources (HR) in quality and quantity. This study was reviewed in the Center for Asia Studies collaboration agenda, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), and the Eurasia Foundation through the Lecture Series seminar in early October.
As for the second seminar, the theme was 'Multiculturalism for the Human Development in Asian Community. Dianni Risda, S.Pd., M.Ed. as a lecturer in Japanese Language Education Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), was also invited. He explained that the concept of multiculturalism in Japan was formed unconsciously because many foreign residents came there. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, it is clear that various ethnic groups, languages, and cultures distinguish one another.
Dianni, her nickname, also examines the longstanding relationship between Indonesia and Japan. Indonesia evidences this as the recipient of the Overseas Development Assistant (ODA), the second largest after China. This investment fund is a concrete form of Japan establishing economic cooperation with Indonesia.
"Indonesia is one of Japan's biggest investment destinations. Considering that Japan's human resources are minimal, it is necessary to expand its production abroad, and Indonesia is one of them," he said.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Yudi Darma, S.Si., M.Sc. as the next speaker, explained that the multiculturalism of society has both positive and negative impacts. The positive impact is openness between countries which facilitates cooperation and collaboration. On the other hand, the negative impact is that the national debt is increasing. It is due to high public demand due to the increasingly pluralistic society.
This lecturer at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) said that technological developments have contributed to the formation of multiculturalism. A multicultural society is unconsciously formed through social media. That's because those with different backgrounds meet without any boundaries.
It also shows the high public consumption level of social media, especially in Asia. That will affect the energy used and the reserves of raw materials for electronic manufacture, which continue to run out.
"The energy aspect and recycling of electronic waste should not be forgotten. Electronic waste is piling up every day. Therefore, there is a need for reprocessing electronic waste so that it is not dangerous for human survival in the future," he added. (cdr/haq/wil)
