Despite the fact that he is a new student, Fauzi Azmi Fisabilillah successfully won the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ), which was directly organized by the Tilawatil Qur’an Development Institute (LPTQ) Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Islamic Religious Education (PAI) students of Muhammadiyah Malang University took first place in the event, which was held at the end of August.
Fauzi said that he has been pursuing the MTQ since childhood. In addition, apart from learning to improve his reading skills, he could also learn more about Islam. As a result of his perseverance, Fauzi had won several Qur’an memorization competitions.
“I was also motivated by my parents. I desire to be like my parents. Be able to recite Al- Quran correctly and fluently. Because of their support, I can focus not only on reciting Qur’an, but also on winning scouts, drum band, as well as provincial basketball,” he stated.
The eldest of three siblings also said he would represent his city at the NTB level in the same event. That was caused by his achievement in winning first place. He admitted that success in the competition was challenging, especially since his competitors also possessed qualifying skills. He said that confidence is the most essential quality for competing.
“I also registered myself to join the MTQ unit of student activity (UKM) at UMM. Additionally, MTQ UMM frequently takes first place. Alhamdulillah, I received the highest score during the selection. Hopefully, I can represent the campus proudly in other competitions,” he said.

He also has a good cause for picking UMM. Since the MTQ UKM is quite good, some of his seniors also managed to get many awards while studying at the White Campus. Fauzi hoped that he could follow in the footsteps of his seniors to excel in various arenas. (*ri/wil/fajr)
