ESTE Students Present Four Fantasy Tales

The students of the Elementary School Teacher Education (ESTE) study program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held a drama performance with the theme of fantasy fairy tales. Those who are members of the Harmonia Saskara theater performed four famous stories, namely “Snow White”, “Cinderella”, “Hanzel and Gretel”, and “A Sheepherder and a Wolf” at the end of June.

The chairman of Harmonia Saskara Theater, Exzal Antolin Febriansyah, explained that the main purpose of this performance is to bring the stories of fairy tales that are full of moral messages and entertainment back to life. They want to bring the audience to a magical world full of life lessons and show that these fantasy tales are still relevant to today's life.

"Snow White" was chosen for its relevant moral message and universal values, such as kindness and courage to overcome evil. The drama also displays attractive visual elements such as the magic mirror and the seven dwarfs, highlighting fresh adaptations and local flairs. Furthermore, the drama "Hanzel and Gretel" is also interesting. The story is derived from a German folktale that presents the struggle of two children trying to survive in the midst of difficult conditions, teaching the values of courage, cooperation, and the importance of family.

"The same goes with other stories. Hopefully, the audience will get entertainment and inspiration to live a better life," said Exzal.

Interestingly, each drama features modern elements without losing the original essence of the story. The story of Hanzel and Gretel provides a more contemporary setting. As well as the makeup and costumes. Even the Hanzel and Gretel drama team won the best makeup and costume award. In addition, they also won the most favorite poster and teaser, as well as the general prize.

The plays "Cinderella" and "The Sheepherder and the Wolf" are also highlighted. With luxurious costumes, spectacular stage settings, and the support of modern lighting technology, these two dramas are expected to provide an unforgettable theater experience for the audience. Involving ESTE UMM students, this performance also aims to increase appreciation for theater art in the country.
