After repeatedly achieving accolades, one of the students of Muhammadiyah Malang University (UMM) successfully secured a top-five ranking in the 2024 LLDikti Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres) in East Java on April 24, 2024. This student is none other than Evita Leninda Fahriza Ayuni, currently studying in the Mechanical Engineering Program at UMM. Interestingly, Evita also earned the opportunity to represent East Java at the national level in a similar competition.

She expressed her joy and disbelief at being chosen to represent UMM at the national level, representing East Java in the selection of outstanding students. She competed with the best students from various other universities, such as UB, Airlangga University, Petra Christian University, and so on.

"However, that didn't make me feel inferior. I still strive to do my best by accumulating various achievements and scoring outstanding achievements, as well as creating futuristic ideas," she said.

Behind this accomplishment, Evita indeed boasts a myriad of achievements that she maximized to advance to this outstanding student selection. Starting from national-level achievements such as winning the energy-saving car competition in 2022, winning gold and silver in international competitions in South Korea due to innovations in road roughness measuring devices, bronze medals in Thailand, and more. This made her confident and determined to compete with the best students from other universities.

The ideas she presented in the student achievement selection were also intriguing. Evita developed futuristic ideas by revisiting the aspect of local salt production on Madura Island by implementing technological systems to improve the quantity and quality of salt in the Madura Strait. Some of the technologies include monitoring temperature parameters, water levels, concentrations, the use of tunnels, and geomembranes.

"The tunnel functions to ensure the crystallization process continues even when it rains. Meanwhile, the geomembrane is useful to make the salt whiter. At the national level, I will certainly add various futuristic ideas that can provide more benefits and yield the best results. Hopefully, these futuristic ideas can become ideas for the development of salt ponds in the Madura Strait so that they can compete with imported products," she explained.

Lastly, she advised all UMM students to seize every opportunity available. According to her, opportunities do not come twice. Not only waiting for information, but also seeking out various available competitions. "Of course, this also depends on the intention and relentless efforts of individuals. Therefore, we must make the most of our student years. Maximize the energy and ideas we have to bring glory to the name of the university," she concluded. (tri/wil)
