Competing with thousands of applicants, Ishmah Alghumaisha, a University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) student, successfully represented Indonesia in conducting student exchanges to Egypt with nine other students. This student exchange program was organized by the International Pharmaceutical Student Federation (IPSF) and was attended by 20 countries, including Indonesia.
Ishmah, her nickname, said that this student exchange program is an opportunity for pharmacy students worldwide to meet their colleagues. The different situations and conditions between countries also provide suitable lessons for the participants. The program is divided into four fields of pharmacy, namely industry, community, research, and clinical. Before being accepted, participants are required to choose a lot that will be followed while in the destination country.
"I chose industry for this program. So for two weeks at Misr University for Science and Technology, I will undergo a training program in cosmetology, quality control of medicinal products, or nanotechnology. Especially in Indonesia, 20 people passed the program. But we were placed in different countries and different universities," said the 2019 pharmacy student.
The second of five children, he admitted that he had been aware of the IPSF program since he was a new student. Her curiosity about the culture of other countries and the development of pharmacy education in various countries made Ishma prepare two and a half years to participate in related programs.
“The selection itself is quite strict, and many people are interested in joining this program. I was quite overwhelmed to prepare for the selection process on the sidelines of organizational activities and lectures. The selection is divided into two stages, and the first is the selection of documents and interviews from the Indonesian Pharmacy Student Senate Association (ISMAFARSI) to represent Indonesia. Next is the selection from the destination country through the IPSF website,” said the student born in Biak, Papua.
Ishmah has started her student exchange program from February 14th to February 28th. He is very grateful for this good opportunity given to him. “This student exchange that I did to Egypt was the first step for me. Because of that, I hope that in the future, I can take the next steps to know more about other parts of the world,” he concluded. (cdr/syi/wil)
