According to information published by the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), Indonesia is home to 80% of all medicinal plants in the world. There are approximately 25,000 to 30,000 plants with potential medicinal properties. Therefore, Indonesia has significant potential for the development of the herbal industry. However, until now, accessing comprehensive herbal information has been quite challenging. This difficulty could lead to misuse and decreased public interest in herbal products.
In response to this issue, a team of six students from four different campuses in the Malang area developed an application called Herbify. The Herbify team successfully reached the Top 20 Final Capstone Project at Bangkit Academy Batch 1 2023, surpassing 786 teams across Indonesia. They received an incubation fund of Rp140 million for their achievement from Google and the Ministry of Education.
One of the team members from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Hania Pratiwi Ningrum, stated that Herbify aims to assist the public in accessing accurate and comprehensive information about everything related to herbal practices. Herbify envisions unlocking Indonesia's full potential in the herbal industry by becoming the central hub for all things herbal. Herbify will plan to collaborate with various herbal practitioners, the government, herbal product manufacturers, and herbal communities to realize this noble vision.

"So, three main features are highlighted in this application: Herbal Pedia, Herbal Talk, and Herbal Store. Currently, the application is still in development and will be launched on Google Play around December," said the informatics student.
There are several features of Herbify, such as Herbal Pedia, which comprises an encyclopedia of plants and herbs with credible sources. Herbify will collaborate with the Materia Medica Batu (MMB) herbal center. The content includes knowledge about plants, their benefits, uses, and processing methods. Additionally, Herbal Talk provides consultation services with doctors specialized in herbal medicine. Lastly, Herbal Store offers reliable herbal medicines.
"Herbal Pedia is like a scan for detecting herbal plants. For example, if we can't differentiate between turmeric and sand ginger, we can scan them, and it will be automatically detected. If it's sand ginger, it will automatically redirect to the explanation about sand ginger," she explained.

Through the Herbify application, she hopes to learn more about the herbal plants in Indonesia. Hania regrets that many Indonesians are unaware of the other benefits of herbal plants. Numerous herbal plants in Indonesia can be maximally utilized and processed without exporting them abroad. (*dev/wil/fajr)
