Children with retardation and mental abilities, that are below average, need a different learning model from other ones. Therefore, Muhammad Haddad Richard, a student of Arabic Language Education at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), initiated to innovate an application for mentally impaired children. The application is currently still in the form of a prototype and is being developed further.

The student, known as Haddad, said that in writing and creating this application, he collaborated with Imelda Azaliya Rahma, an Informatics Engineering student at UMM. They have even managed to become finalists in the English National Competition held in North Sumatra.

"When it is completed, this application is expected to help children with disabilities in learning interactive English with the teacher," he explained.

The application is designed through the Card Game Augmented Reality (CAGGAR), a card game that can display three dimensions as a learning medium to facilitate children with disabilities.

Later, the app users’ ID cards will connect and display a 3-dimensional image through a cell phone. As for now,  the prototype of the application can be seen on Figma.

Despite that condition, Haddad admitted that he had experienced obstacles when finishing the application. “I faced difficulties in creating this application and generating its ideas. Moreover, there is still research that can be used as a reference,” said the Arabic Education student.

Last but not least, the student who joins UMM’s Scientific Discussion Forum, a student unit, encourages students to continue to show work and manage time well among lectures, organizations, competitions, internships, and other daily activities.

“As a student, do something valuable and positive. Sort and choose activities, so that you can become a useful human being," concluded Haddad. (imh/nov/wil)
