UMM Students Won Two Awards at the East Java Tourism and Culture Event

A proud achievement has been made by a student of the Indonesian Language Education Program (PBI) at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). This time, it is Devy Putri Susilo who has made a mark by earning nominations for Miss Favorite and Best Intelligence in the prestigious Mister & Miss Tourism and Culture East Java 2024 competition, held last October. She is also set to compete again in the Mister and Miss Teen Tourism Indonesia 2025 event in Yogyakarta.

In the competition, Ivy, as she is affectionately called, was one of the selected contestants who made it to the grand final. Representing PBI FKIP UMM, Ivy showcased her deep knowledge and understanding of East Java’s culture and tourism. Her intelligence and broad insights helped her earn the Best Intelligence award, a prestigious recognition that highlighted her ability to tackle intellectual challenges and compete with other finalists. Ivy also earned the Miss Favorite nomination thanks to the support of many people.

This achievement further solidified Ivy's position as one of the top finalists and became a source of pride for the PBI FKIP UMM department, reflecting the involvement of its students in prestigious events related to tourism and culture. “Alhamdulillah, I am very grateful for this achievement. I never expected to receive two nominations at once. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me, especially PBI FKIP UMM and my family,” said Ivy.

According to her, the competition was a valuable experience, as it not only added to her knowledge of culture and tourism but also boosted her self-confidence. She also encouraged fellow students to never hesitate to try new things and keep creating. “Achievements can come from anywhere, as long as we are brave enough to try, make an effort, and take steps toward reaching them,” she emphasized.
