Another proud achievement was given by the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). One of the UMM teams won third place in the national debate competition, precisely in the NASTEC (National Accounting Seminar and Debate Competition) event. The online contest was held by the Malang State Polytechnic (Polinema) on 27-28 November.
One of the team members, Iffany Amelia Widhi, said that the team took almost two months to prepare. This is inseparable from the theme of the debate that discusses accounting, even though none of its members are involved and come from economics or accounting majors.
"I am from the law faculty, while the other two members are from the international relations and psychology department. So like it or not, we have to read a lot and dig up information about the economy," she added.

Iffany, her nickname again, explained that before entering the debate competition, she had to go through the internal selection process at the International Language Forum (ILF) Student Activity Unit (UKM) to represent UMM. Finally, six people were chosen, divided into two teams to compete with other teams throughout Indonesia.
Iffany said her team's most challenging challenge was consolidating material that discussed the economy. They are required to read a lot of literature, view news, and map out different materials with their respective backgrounds.
"We are two days a week, Saturday and Sunday. Luckily, many experienced and accomplished seniors help and train us. Of course, this gives us our spirit to excel," said the law student.

Iffany also gave tips to speak fluently during the debate competition. She first understood the contested topics and materials by exploring various platforms related to related themes. Second, learn to argue well so that what is discussed is structured and systematic. Then the last one is a lot of practice because the more she does, the more accustomed he becomes to arguing.
"With this victory, my team and I certainly want to invite other students to participate in making achievements. This result proves that they can win the championship even with the limited distance. Let's get out of our comfort zone together and make a victory in the national and international arena," she concluded. (apg/syi/wil)
