UMM Vocational Students Won Trophies at National Banking Competition

Good news comes again from the academic community of Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM). This time, two students from the Banking and Finance D3 program at the Vocational Faculty of UMM successfully brought home two championship titles at the National Banking Competition (NBC) on December 9. They are Galuh Oktavianingtyas, who secured 3rd place in the Bank Customer Service Category, and Fena Nurmala, who achieved 2nd Runner-up in the Bank Teller Service Category.

During the competition, Galuh presented a topic on open digital finance focused on supporting SMEs. Meanwhile, Fena crafted an intriguing essay about the existence of the Islamic banking industry for the millennial generation in the 4.0 era. 

Regarding their victory, the supervising lecturer, Eris Tri Kurniawati S.E., M.M. Ak., explained that the event was prestigious. Various competitions were held, ranging from Customer Service, Teller, Content Creator, Basketball, Futsal, Mobile Legends, and PUBG Mobile.

According to her, the two students demonstrated excellent mastery of frontline service materials, supported by practical learning designed by the Banking and Finance Vocational Program and Laboratory at UMM.

Eris stated that there were several stages her students had to go through, starting with preliminary rounds involving quizzes on bank frontline service-related topics. Then, they proceeded to compose essays closely related to banking in the current era, which held 70 percent of the weight. 

Meanwhile, the Head of the Banking and Finance D3 Program at UMM, Syamsul Hadi Hadi, S.E., M.Si, CRA, praised their achievements. He mentioned that this was evidence that project-based learning was working effectively.

Learning through real-world practice, according to Syamsul, allows students to become part of the banking system itself from their college years and even excel in their professional fields. "I extend my appreciation and congratulations to the students who excelled at the NBC 2023. Stay motivated. Be confident and competent; believe you can surely succeed," he concluded. (*wil/fajr)
