After his inauguration, Indonesia's President, Prabowo Subianto, announced the ministers and deputy ministers who will assist in advancing the nation. One notable name is Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., who has been entrusted as the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Technology. Fauzan's selection is closely tied to his long-standing contributions and numerous innovations in higher education, including his leadership at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), which earned the title of the Best Islamic Campus in the World.
Regarding the appointment, UMM's Head of Public Relations, Dr. M. Isnaini, M.Pd., noted that Fauzan has an excellent track record during his leadership at UMM. "Throughout his time at UMM, Prof. Fauzan consistently held strategic positions. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) for two terms, from 2005 to 2012. He later became the Vice Rector II of UMM and was appointed as Rector for two consecutive terms, from 2016 to 2024," said Krisna, as he is commonly called.
Krisna added that Fauzan is a modest individual in his daily life, yet he constantly generates fresh and innovative ideas, especially in advancing the education sector. Fauzan also encourages experts and professors to engage directly with communities, assisting them and maximizing the potential of each region.
One of his most impactful innovations was the Center of Excellence (CoE) program, based on study programs. This initiative accelerated student graduation and equipped them with skills aligned with industry and societal needs. Students could choose specific skills based on their passion, regardless of their major. Uniquely, the CoE involved practitioners who directly taught the skills required in business and industry.
