Poverty is one of the problems that must be eradicated. So, the koi cultivation business is one of the answers to that problem. This was confirmed by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) RI Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP in the closing of Malang Koi Show at UMM, Sunday (28/8). Also present were the Deputy Regent of Malang, Drs. Didik Gatot Subroto S.H., M.H. in the koi event.
Muhadjir continued that the establishment of the UMM Koi Center of Excellence (CoE) was a strategic effort in developing the koi business. It is also an effort to realize the ideals of the Indonesian government to become the axis of world fisheries.
“The collaboration that UMM has built with partners from the Business and Industrial World (DUDI) is a good step. That way, progress and education on koi cultivation can be carried out," he added.

It is not much different conveyed by Didik. According to him, the hobbies carried out by the participants can be carried out professionally so that they generate capital. Moreover, with the opening of the koi professional class by UMM which is expected to be able to provide qualified education. He also encourages students to be serious when pursuing the world of koi because this activity actually helps the Indonesian fishery world.
“The regent also expressed his highest appreciation for holding the Malang Koi Show. Even with the CoE launched by UMM. Even later, the regent will also take part in the koi professional class,” he said.

The Vice Regent of Malang, who is also an alumnus of UMM, hoped that the steps that had been carried out could be accompanied by the ministry of marine and fisheries. So that it can provide maximum results and provide wider benefits to the community.
The overall winner in the Malang Koi Show event was Heru Santoso, a participant from Magetan. The coin fish managed to beat the other participants with 100,350 points from the 12 judges.
On the same occasion, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. considered that this event was the fuel for the birth of CoE Koi from UMM aquaculture study program. That way, graduates of this professional school can lift the community's economy by creating jobs or by providing education.
"I believe that the strategic partnership between UMM and DUDI can make koi a good commodity and become a part of Indonesia's economic progress," he concluded. (cdr/*/wil)
