Printing a golden generation and competent graduates is not an easy matter. Even so, three spearheads have a role and can determine the direction of the steps of young people to achieve success. This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP., in the gathering of new student guardians of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The routine schedule, which was held on Thursday (25/8), was divided into three waves.

Muhadjir, as he is often called, assesses that the percentage of the role of universities in shaping the younger generation is around 25%. While the part of parents also has the same level at 25%. At the same time, the remaining 50% depends on how students or young people can maximize their potential. Develop themselves by participating in various activities and completing their studies well.

"So those three things have to play their part well. It's useless if the campus and parents deliver and facilitate very much, but the students don't have dreams and ambitions to achieve success," he said.

Regarding UMM's achievements, he believes that there are many awards and achievements that UMM continues to achieve. One of them was the predicate of the superior campus in East Java which was acquired by UMM 14 times a row. Even with the achievement as the World's Best Islamic Campus and various successively achieved awards.

Muhadjir also talked about Indonesia's productive age. In 2021, there were 146.1 million people during the effective period. Among them, there were 7 million who had not found a job before the pandemic. Then it rose to 9 million during Covid. Now it has decreased to 8 million people.

"Not to mention the number of graduates who graduated from universities reached 1.3 million. Even high school graduates, vocational schools, and Aliyah could not continue their studies at 1.6 million, so at least 3 million workers need work. So I encourage universities to create entrepreneurs who can create jobs for other people," he added.

Even though the number of registrants reached more than 20,000 people, he asked his guardians, parents, and students to take advantage of this opportunity well.

"We also have the UMM PASTI program, which ensures that your children can graduate on time in 3.5-4 years. Even with an independent personality and the certainty of getting a job after graduation. To make it happen, we have provided various activities that students can participate in to develop their potential and interests," said Fauzan.

On the other hand, one of the student guardians, Daeng Muhammad Suud considered that the quality of UMM White Campus was unquestionable. Especially with the various breakthroughs that have been made, such as the Center of Excellence, UMM Pasti, and the MyUMM application, make it easier for parents to monitor their children's progress.

"I was present at this gathering as the guardian of my grandson, studying in the Department of Communication Studies at UMM. Previously, my children also studied at UMM and are now successful in their respective fields," explained Suud, who came from Pasuruan. (apg/wil)
