Social Minister, Khofifah: Indonesia Is Prone to Disaster, MDMC-Government Partner Has Strategic Step

2nd JAMBORE Muhammadiyah National Volunteer held by Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) at University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) was closed with the presence of Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) RI, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, on Sunday (3/12) in hall UMM Dome. The presence of Social Minister ended the series of jamboree activities that had been started on Thursday (30/11).
Khofifah said, the presence of MDMC or Lembaga Penanggulangan Bencana (LPB) Muhammadiyah is part of public-private partnership that must be built together between Muhammadiyah and government because there are 232 cities and districts in Indonesia which at risk affected by natural disasters. "Moreover, 80 percent of those affected will experience jamila, or become poor again," she said.
Khofifah also greatly appreciated MDMC's work. She recounted, last year, when the declaration of World Volunteer Day, MDMC became one of the elements in the vanguard. "MDMC also became a timeframe in initiating declarations while building international commitments and strategies to address various disaster issues."
Also, Khofifah also wanted to hand over the field public kitchen at MDMC as well as invite the government and various elements commemorate on the Volunteer Day on 7-8 December in Pacitan. "We hold in Pacitan because they are experiencing flash floods and landslides. Hopefully, with our presence, people do not panic, but we remain sprightly," she explained.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector I UMM, Syamsul Arifin said, with the disaster-prone Indonesia situation, the presence of MDMC is needed for the handling of natural disasters and humanity. "Hopefully, this national jamboree makes Muhammadiyah volunteers more sensitive and skilled in handling disasters," he said.
This four-day MDMC activity was supported by Lazismu, UNICEF, UMM and a number of autonomous organizations Muhammadiyah. Pre-opening activities started with Social Activity in the form of blood donation and medical examination in Kedung Kandang, Malang on Thursday (30/11). Then it was followed by Silaturrahim Kebangsaan by Chairman of the MPR RI Zulkifli Hasan on Friday morning (1/12). The opening ceremony was held on Friday afternoon (1/12) attended by the Minister of Education of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhadjir Effendy and Chairman of the Central Executive (PP) Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir.
Jamboree is also colored with exciting and challenging activities through a number of competitions on Saturday (2/12). They were Navigation Competition and the Water Bottle Rescue Challenge "Emergency Medical Team" Medical Contest, Psychosocial Psychosocial Competition " Intervention Challenge ", Intelligent Response Competition" Disaster Challenge "and also Photo Contest" Jamboree Photo Challenge ". Volunteers could also attend disaster risk reduction and disaster management classes. (ard)
