University of Muhammadiyah Malang held a Great Reunion under the theme “Welcome Back to Campus” on Saturday (23/12). This reunion was attended by hundreds of alumni started in class 1983. The opening ceremony was held in Theater Dome UMM continued by faculty reunion party.
This event was attended by UMM rectors during the consolidation, independence, and expansion period. They are Prof.H.Abdul Malik Fadjar, M.Sc, who is the Chairman of the Board of Daily Trustees of UMM and Member of Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres) of the Republic of Indonesia and Prof.Dr.Muhadjir Effendy,M.AP who is the minister of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia.
The event was begun with cap embedding to a representative of reunion participants by the rector and former rector of UMM. This reminded the participants when they were studying at the White Campus. Malik Fadjar delivered his speech and reminded the alumni to keep their ideals and goals. If they lose their goals, there will not be energy and motivation to do meaningful things in the future. He said, “UMM is a university with full of ideals. So, UMM alumni are the generations who were born and raised with ideals”.
Meanwhile, Muhadjir Effendy was impressed with the achievements achieved by UMM alumni. They have been working in various fields including being politicians. He said, “I see there are many UMM alumni who have become great influential people especially in political field. Some of them become members of legislative assembly and become regents”.
At the end, UMM Rector, Drs.Fauzan, M.Pd said that UMM Alumni have to keep in touch and make a good communication each other. Although they have been successful, they have to put UMM in their hearts. He said, “We may become alumni, but we must be one”.
There were also alumni whose works are well-known in Indonesia attended this reunion, such as academics and political observer Dr. M. Alfan Alfian, M.Si and Former Secretary of Defense of the Democratic Republic of East Timor, Dr. Julio Tomas Pinto.(lus)
