Gowes Wasing Machine made by the students of Industrial Engineering UMM
Generally, washing machine needs power for electricity which makes the expense higher. This is the reason why a group of students of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) made an innovation by creating “Gowes” Washing Machine.

While taking the course “Product Development”, the students have to make a product. Arfian Sinatrya Darussalam and his group members made a new tool by modifying old equipment.

Under the guidance of their lecturer, Muhammad Lukman, Arfian’s group used a broken washing machine then combined it with a bicycle. This creative innovation is the solution for housewives to wash their clothes which does not need much cost.

This machine is made by utilizing some parts which is then connected to a gear to rotate the machine. The bicycle is used to pedal the machine.

It took three months to make this machine works, started from research until the production process. Arfian said, “We will be continuing to make this machine work better and better”.

Currently, this machine is used by Arfian and his friends in their lodging house. They will join Student Creativity Program while wishing that this machine could be mass produced.

“Product Development” course leads the students to create an innovation whether they modify something or create a new thing. The Secretary of Industrial Engineering, Dian Palupi Restuputri revealed, “There must be a skill that has to be learned in Industrial Engineering which can be applied in society”. (lus)
