Leaving Palestine for study since August 2017, Monther Rasheed, an awardee of Dharmasiswa scholarship given by Indonesia Government has to stay in Indonesia for a year. Monther who was born in Hebron, the city of Ramallah creates his new journey living in another country. “When I was informed that I was accepted this scholarship, I was sure about this country. Indonesian people do care about us, the Palestinians”.
Malang is the city where Monther’s journey began. He becomes a part of the White Campus, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). He joined New Student Study Introduction in 2017 then ended up by finding a new family in Indonesia. He said, “I am proud to be a part of UMM. The people are very nice. They are my new families”. The interesting thing is, Monther always brings Palestine flag everywhere he goes.
When he was interviewed three days before the Eid, Monther enthusiastically told the spirit of the Palestinians celebrating the Eid. “We never fall in sadness for too long. Life must go on. We celebrate the Eid like everybody else does”.
This year, he does not go back to Palestine because he wants to celebrate the Aid with his Indonesian family. A lecturer of UMM, Achmad Habib welcomes him and his friends to stay in his house. Monther who is taking Indonesian Language and Literature said, “Mr. Habib is my family here. He lets us stay in his place yet very kind. He is like a father to us”.
This boy whose hobby is photography also told what he usually does with his family to celebrate the Eid. The way Indonesian people celebrate the Eid is the same as Palestinians. They visit relatives’ houses. “I visit my Indonesian friends’ houses, the same thing I do in Palestine”. (lus)
