The inauguration of the Social Forestry program held by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of Republic of Indonesia (KemenLHK) provides fresh air for the community. Although the constraints are still commonly encountered, the program is continually held to target forest expansion in Indonesia.

One means to convey the constraints and ideas for the improvement of this program is the Semiloka conducted by the Forest University Leadership Forum (FOReTIKA). Cooperating with several universities, FORETIKA carries out this agenda twice a year. This time, University of Muhammadiyah Malang is chosen to be the host.

In addition to the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Universities Association, UMM Forestry Study Program has also been trusted to manage forest areas granted by KemenLHK.

"In this workshop, UMM Forestry should be proud as the host because it can be a means for UMM to show its duty to the stakeholders," explained Tatag Muttaqin, the Chairman of UMM Forestry Study Program.

The event held on Wednesday to Saturday (18-21 / 7) will bring about the completion of the several aspects forestry curriculum. Presented by the Chairman of FORETIKA Rinekso Soekmadi, this workshop will produce formulas and references on forestry life that is pointed to the government.

"The results of this workshop will be formulated as a FOReTIKA effort to provide guidance to the government to make policies on forestry," explained the lecturer of Ecotourism Management Program and Environmental Services of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB).

Not only to presenting FOReTIKA, the agenda held in UMM Senate Meeting Room also presented Directorate General of Social Forest and Environmental Partnership (PSKL) of KemenLHK Bambang Supriyanto. In his presentation, Bambang explained about the development of the Social Forestry program which also requires more academic involvement to create literate human resources for literacy.

"This forum is a means for me to discuss directly with academics about the development and sustainability of the Social Forestry program," he said.

At the end of the first explanation, Head of KemenLHK Human Resources and Development Agency (BP2SDM) KemenLHK Helmi Basalamah added that one of the programs that can be done by universities to support the Social Forestry program is the holding of Thematic Work Course (KKN) Thematic focusing on forest conservation around the area of KKN.

"For me, the thematic KKN could be a concrete step for universities to participate in improving the program of Social Forestry," explained Helmi.

Helmi continued that universities have a big role in preparing literate human resources for forestry. Hepofully, as an academic who is trusted by the community, universities through the Forestry Study Program helps BP2SDM in the implementation of adequate human resources.

UMM Rector Fauzan fully supports the implementation of this Semiloka program as the lighter spirit of UMM academicians especially in the Forestry Study Program in order to be more steady to give forestry generation that has been often stigmatized as carpenter.

"The forestry students cannot be underestimated. They are the survival relay holders of human life today," supported Fauzan. (ard)
