In writing, critical thinking and engaging discussions are important. It was confirmed directly by the famous writer Okky Madasari at the East Java Muhammadiyah Writers Gathering event at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on March 2nd. The activity was held by the Majelis Pustaka, Informasi, dan Digitalisasi (MPID) Muhammadiyah East Java Regional Board. The gathering also became the launching event of Alliansi Penulis Muhammadiyah (APIMU).

"Being critical here means that the writer is able to analyze all the data, facts, events, and information on the topic that is being discussed. Thus, the writing can be more valuable because it does not only discuss the surface of the topic. Being critical is also the first step in writing a good text," she emphasized.

The well-known writer explained that critical thinking is a device to search for the issue you want to discuss. It will open up views and perspectives on a study. Finding problems is not only needed in essay writing but also in fiction writing.

She also explained the segments of writing that she often makes, which are fiction and essay writing. Okky's analysis of the issues is always based on those two. According to him, any issue can be a good piece of writing. However, fiction and essays have their differences. Opinion essays must pay attention to data, while fiction must dare to break the barriers of imagination.

Okky said that criticism also helps writers be more responsible with their writing. There is a difference between writers who really understand the science of writing and social media users who just make tweets. According to him, writing can also be two different blades, which can be a tool of criticism or a way to give praise.

"There is a difference between criticism and critique. Criticism is commenting on policies, views, or whatever. The opposite of criticism is praise. The writing can also be a tool for praise or branding. However, the data attached must also be based on existing facts," she added.

Finally, she advised all participants not to feel insecure about their educational background. Different educational backgrounds can become weapons and different views on a topic discussed.

The Secretary of PWM East Java, Prof. Dr. Biyanto, M.Ag., who launched APIMU on that occasion, was also present. According to him, Muhammadiyah must have a lot of writers. Thus, the existence of this alliance is expected to be able to produce reliable writers who provide perspectives on various problems.

"Writing requires 3M. The first M is menulis (to write); the second is menulis lagi (to write again). Finally, the third M is menulis lagi (to write again). Writing is continuous and endless. Hopefully APIMU will be able to take part well in various ways and efforts," she concluded. (faq/wil/put)
