Without being labeled as a religious song, music will always have a significant role in the media of da'wah. Musician and composer Muhammad Dwiki Dharmawan conveyed this in the Ramadhan Tadarus of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The activity, which was attended by thousands of participants, was held on April 14, 2023, at the UMM Dome.
Interestingly, Dwiki accompanied the participants in singing Sang Surya with his piano performance. He even appeared with his wife, Ita Purnamasari, singing two songs to entertain and greet the audience. One of them is entitled "In the Name of Allah."
By raising the big theme of da'wah strategy through art and culture, Dwiki said da'wah through the music industry has a huge influence on Muslims and religious people. Music is created and tells about concern for others and the environment.
"Music in Indonesia has become a legend. Indonesian music will always impress listeners. Therefore, music can be a strategic and effective means of da'wah," he said.
Furthermore, Dwiki stressed that the power of music in Indonesia was visible from the audience's enthusiasm at various concerts. Moreover, music is often heard from various places such as cafes, hangouts, parks, and others. "Music and da'wah can go very well together because music has the effect of uplifting and also breaking the ice," said the PP Muhammadiyah LSB Expert Council.
One of the religious songs he created was "In the Name of Allah." According to him, the song, which was born in the 90s, became very popular and is always played during Ramadan. That song also led him to give birth to new religious songs as a means of da'wah.
Interestingly, Dwiki is also one of the people behind songs born from Muhammadiyah. Two of them are the composers of the 100th-anniversary music of the Muktamar Muhammadiyah and the PKU Muhamadiyah hymn.
On the other hand, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., said that the atmosphere of Tadarus this time was a bit different. This cannot be separated from the presence of two creative people who can preach through their works. He explained that Deddy and Dwiki were familiar because both were part of the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board of LSB experts.
Fauzan also explained that in facing Ramadan, UMM always presented many figures and various activities from one circle of belief and invited those with different backgrounds.
"We also done a series of community services to various places. For example, by visiting the Class II A Women's Penitentiary in Malang and suhoor with residents in Jodipan. All of this is done as a form of spreading benefits to others," he concluded. (put/zak/wil)
