The alignment of forty-five red and white flags that flanked Muhammadiyah and Aisyiah’s flags behind Helipad University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), called by Vice Rector II Dr. Nazarudin Malik, M.Si as a symbol of the strategic role of Muslims in the dynamics of independence of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). In addition, the symbol also showed deep philosophy that muslims were actually the main factor of the nation's mover.
"As the main factor of the nation's mover, do not put any suspicions or doubtfulness on muslims about its loyalty toward NKRI. Islamophobia is something that is impossible happen in Indonesia, "said Nazarudin when became flag hoisting ceremony inspector on the anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia at Helipad UMM on Thursday, August 12. In 1918,he added, the establishment of Muhammadiyah's autonomous scout organization, called Hizbul Wathan (state defense grup), was an important momentum of the birth of Islamic struggle movement basic, especially Muhammadiyah to defend this nation.
Nazarudin added, Muhammadiyah also played an important role after the proclamation day in 1945. Therefore, Nazarudin asserted the basic values and spirit of the struggle should be implemented by giving more, and never asked for more, it was an important part and should be developed to consolidate UMM to be a university that more progressive and uphold education civilization.
In his closing speech, Nazarudin explained that the various activities that held at UMM on the 72nd anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, should be a momentum to thank (God) for blessings of independence that had been achieved. He hoped, the nation of Indonesia could continue to be a modern nation, civilized nation and upholding justice and humanity.
Interestingly, in this ceremony of the 72nd anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day at UMM joined by 12 diplomat candidates from five continents through the program of 12th Promotion to Indonesian Language and Culture for Foreign Diplomats, in which this Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenlu) program of the Republic of Indonesia pointed out the Indonesian Language unit for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) of UMM as a provider of language and cultural teaching services of Indonesia.
