Education Fair at UMM Presented 17 American Campuses

NUMBERS of cooperation between University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) and various institutions in the US became the main reason that United States Embassy making UMM as the host of major event, namely United States (US) Graduate School Fair 2016, This event which took place on Wednesday (14 / 9) was attended by 17 renowned universities from US.

"Recently, there are about 9000 Indonesian students studying in US, we expect that it’s getting up and making US as a place for education," said Surabaya US Consul General, Heather Variava, when opening the exhibition.

Meanwhile, the staff of UMM Education USA Advising Center, Zaki Zulkarnain, also said that, the annual official US Embassy was only held in two cities, Jakarta and Malang. In Jakarta, the event was held at the JW Marriot Hotel on September 15.

Zaki admitted, the extent of UMM cooperation was beneficial for this campus. Currently, for example, UMM already had Education USA Advising Center office and American Corner as an information center and partnerships network that connected academics Indonesia with institutions and campuses in United State. UMM was always believed by US as a manager of Pre-Service Training for Peace Corps volunteers, American. Moreover, in the last year, UMM was trusted to assist US Army in the combat training as well.

Therefore, Zaki hoped that, students and academics Indonesia, especially in East Java, could use this event to interact directly with the representatives from US universities. Not only that, this activity also presented other support things, such as scholarship from Fulbright and Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP), consultants student visa from the consulate representatives, as well as providers of internship program.

Exhibitors also got additional useful materials for US scholarship applicants, those were about how to write resume and a general description of studying in American life. "Recently, Education USA is working to double the number of Indonesian citizens who study in the US. Therefore, this exhibition is strategic, "said Zaki.
