To promote literacy in the field of psychology, the Psychology Department at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held a poster exhibition on campus. Tri Muji Ingarianti, M.Psi., a lecturer in the Faculty of Psychology (Fapsi), explained that this exhibition is one of the outputs of the Consumer Psychology course taken by 5th-semester Psychology students specializing in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. The exhibition featured dozens of fascinating posters and was held from January 6 to 7.
Tri revealed that the unique aspect of this poster exhibition lies in how Psychology students explore the reasons and mechanisms behind individuals and groups engaging in consumer activities, as well as how they are influenced by those activities. By studying consumer psychology, students can understand the factors that drive consumer behavior in making purchasing decisions. This understanding benefits both producers and consumers, providing insights into how consumer psychology influences buying behavior.

“This poster exhibition on consumer psychology showcased a variety of topics, such as 'Cashback vs Discounts: Which Attracts Students More to Shop?', 'Influence of Social Media: How Instagram and TikTok Drive Millennials’ Purchasing Decisions?', 'Experience vs Goods: Why Do Millennials Prefer Spending Money on Experiences Over Products?', and many other fascinating themes,” explained Tri.
Meanwhile, based on her observations, the literacy level of Psychology students at UMM is quite high. Moreover, Psychology students tend to favor practical and informative learning methods. This means they not only study in class and read books but also engage in research activities, such as organizing this poster exhibition. Activities like studying various journals can also be presented in the form of poster exhibitions as an output, as she believes this approach makes the material easier for students to understand and serves as a platform for sharing information with one another.

Meanwhile, one of the visitors, Balqis Saraja, expressed her delight with the exhibition. She found many aspects of psychology, particularly those related to consumer behavior, to be quite fascinating. Thanks to this exhibition, she gained a better understanding of the relationship between psychology and consumer behavior. “I hope there will be more poster exhibitions as outputs of research. This way, it will be more appealing to the public and young people, rather than just being in the form of lengthy texts that many may find uninteresting,” she added. (zaf/wil/ind)
