Australian Parliament Officially Launches The #AussieBanget Corner UMM

UNIVERSITY OF Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has an arrival of special guest. The Australian parliamentarians entourages specifically visited the white campus to inaugurate an Australian Corner or an #AussieBanget Corner at UMM Central Library on Wednesday, July 12. The visit led by Kevin James Andrews, MPs who had on some posts of minister, including the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Social Services.

In addition to providing books and Australian scholarships information, Australia's information center also provided direct access for civitas academica and general public to access Australia’s digital libraries. Visitors of the #AussieBanget Corner can also learn about the cooperation scheme, which is being done by Indonesia and Australia.

"UMM is an amazing campus. I hope the establishment of the #AussieBanget Corner UMM strengthens our cooperation with Indonesia," said Kevin when interviewed after inaugurating the #AussieBanget Corner UMM.

Kevin did not come by himself. He was accompanied by other parliamentarians, including Catherine Elizabeth O'Toole, Kenneth Desmond O'Dowd, Cameron James Isaac Hill, and Kimberley senator Jane Kitching.

The existence of the #AussieBanget Corner was also to fulfill other existence corners, such as the American Corner, the Saudi Arabian Corner, the Thailand Corner, and the China Corner that previously had been established at UMM.

Meanwhile, UMM Rector Fauzan explained that the #AussieBanget Corner was one of implementation cooperation between UMM and Australia since 1994. Another strategic cooperation undertaken by UMM and Australia was through the Australian Consortium For In Country Indonesia Studies program, which has member of 22 leading universities in Australia.

The Australian Parliament interest at UMM was also shown through their visit to Kampung Warna-Warni (colorful village) Jodipan which previously was developed by student of  Communication department UMM. After visiting the village that was also known as the slum region, Kevin considered to use similar empowerment concept in Australia.

"Kampung Warna-Warni Jodipan is already known worldwide. I am interested to visit here to adopt the concept of empowerment and to listen directly from the conceptors. I really appreciate the work of UMM students," Kevin said.

In addition to UMM, the establishment of the #AussieBanget corner also had been done in many universities such as Bali, Makassar, Medan, Surabaya and Yogyakarta. (Naz)
