Graduates should not be fixated on what they have already achieved but must be prepared to change and adapt in the fast-paced digital era. This was emphasized by the Presidential Advisor of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Muhadjir Effendy in front of thousands of graduates from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The event, held on November 19, was also attended by several guests who motivated the new graduates.
"The world continues to change rapidly over time. We are now entering the era of digital technology and information, which have become essential and fundamental needs for society. Therefore, young people must be able to adapt well and take advantage of the opportunities that arise," he said.
Muhadjir shared that this transformation cannot be separated from the introduction of basic algorithms discovered by the Muslim scholar Al-Khwarizmi around 600 years ago. While Al-Khwarizmi's theory might not have had an immediate impact at the time, it has proven to be incredibly valuable in the future specifically today—where algorithm theory is widely utilized by people worldwide.

Talking about being UMM alumni, he emphasized that graduates must have a hardworking mindset and an unyielding spirit. UMM has served as a second home for all students during their educational journey at the White Campus. "Never worry about the choices you make in your life journey. If you cannot compete with others, don't lose heart; instead, keep seeking other opportunities to seize new chances. Lastly, I want to remind you that what happens today is the dream we had yesterday, and our task today is to build dreams for tomorrow," he advised.
On the other hand, Aldrin Tee, founder of the Social Capital Innovation Impact Hub Singapore, shared his experiences. He leads an organization focused on initiatives to promote innovation, social entrepreneurship, and community development. According to him, several changes are taking place in this era. The key aspects to focus on are the discipline and collaboration each individual needs to cultivate.
"We have learned a lot from various technologies such as AI, drones, big data, and others. These are part of positive innovations that benefit society. Therefore, I encourage UMM graduates to create innovations as solutions," he said.
Meanwhile, UMM Rector Prof. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si. said that UMM's success at the national and international level is inseparable from the White Campus' commitment to improving the quality of the academic atmosphere on campus. This includes improving the campus infrastructure, the quality of the faculty, and providing the best services to the students.
