The number of new student applicants from abroad at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has seen an increase. As of July, there are more than 2,115 applicants from various countries for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. This number was achieved in just two months. This is inseparable from the White Campus' internationalization efforts and increasing global recognition.

"Looking at the data, there are more than 1,000 undergraduate applicants and about 800 master's candidates. Additionally, there are quite a few doctoral applicants. In total, there are about 2,115 foreign student applicants as of July 19, 2024. This number is certainly an increase compared to previous years due to UMM's various international flagship programs," explained Dr. M. Isnaini, M.Pd., Head of UMM Public Relations.

He continued that one key to this increase is good and massive communication with various countries' embassies, allowing many prospective foreign students to receive registration information. Additionally, maximizing social media and leveraging alumni networks have helped introduce UMM internationally, significantly increasing the number of applicants.

"Many students from various countries are registering, such as Nigeria, Ecuador, Mali, Rwanda, Yemen, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Pakistan, and dozens of other countries. We are optimistic that the number of applicants will continue to rise year after year," he added.

Meanwhile, UMM Rector Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si. emphasized the increase in the number of new international student applicants at the White Campus. According to him, this is one result of UMM's efforts towards international recognition. This includes world campus rankings such as QS Stars and Unirank, international certifications like AUN-QA and IABEE, and various contributions by the UMM academic community on the global stage, such as the recognition of Bali's Subak system by UNESCO, and students' international achievements.

"Of course, this is a positive energy for the UMM academic community to enhance international achievements, making UMM more recognized globally. It can be seen from the varied countries of the applicants, ranging from Asia, Africa, America to Europe. This means UMM is increasingly being considered by foreigners as a place to continue their studies," he concluded. (wil/fajr)
