Hard work and perseverance are the keys to success, as felt and told by the President Director of OBOR Education Foundation, Soe To Tie Lin, in front of thousands of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) graduates on May 23, 2023.
John, Soe To Tie Lien's nickname, runs various businesses in Macau, China. He is also serving as the President Commissioner of PT. Sunindo Pratama, which operates in the oil and gas sectors. Aside from that position, he is also the President Director of the One Belt One Road (OBOR) Scholarship. His visit to UMM aims to introduce the OBOR scholarship, which allows Indonesian academicians to continue their studies in China. Joe even provides 40 master's and doctoral scholarships for the academicians of UMM to pursue their education in the land of Panda.
Furthermore, he also told his story about the processes he had to go through to reach the point now. Joe thinks graduates must know and learn exceptional skills, so many parties will look for and recruit human resources with those skills.
"Don't forget to be a person of integrity so that you can get a good reputation throughout your career," said the great Macau businessman.
Additionally, graduates must also have the skill of technology mastery, knowing and utilizing it, and so must management and observation skills. Graduates can't fear taking a risk and making important decisions. "Don't be easily tempted by things in this world. Focus on your goals and ensure you achieve them," advised John.

Meanwhile, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M. Pd., explained that John's visit to the White Campus — the alias of UMM —has special missions. One of them is to collaborate and implement his company with UMM. With that said, it can benefit both parties due to the collaboration.
Fauzan also said that becoming a bachelor is the beginning of life to build a career in the future. Therefore, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang has equipped its students to generate excellent human resources through the Center of Excellence (CoE) program. It's based on strategic and futuristic thinking that Indonesia will be in the phase of demographic bonus by 2025-2038, where the Indonesian population with productive age numbers has a much larger number than non-productive ones, reaching 73% versus less than 24%.
"UMM doesn't want the demographic bonus owned by Indonesia to be a disaster. Hence, the CoE is here to equip students, prepare them to be able to compete in the world of work and have an independent spirit," said Fauzan. (imh/ri/wil)
