A dream is free; do not fear dreaming because it is mandatory. However, to have a dream only is not enough, it must be followed by hard work to make it come true. Muhammad Sukron, S. T., M. T., the Commissioner of PT. Aerofood ACS (Garuda Indonesia Group) delivered the idea, who was an alumnus of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
Sukron, his nickname, expressed that his success as a commissioner is inseparable from hard work and experience perceived during his bachelor’s degree journey. Previously, he did not expect to be a leader in one of the state-owned enterprise companies.
“Because, usually, an engineering graduate working in a company or a state-owned enterprise employee is already considered superb. However, if it can be more, it will be an excellent thing, especially for me,” stated Sukron.
Sukron has served as a commissioner for two years. He claims that he must face and solve many problems, especially when the company faces the COVID-19 crisis and issues, one of which is the decrease in income.
“With the strong desire to raise the company, alhamdulillah, my team and I can overcome it. Through accountable evaluation and monitoring in line with the Good Corporate and Governance (GCG), the company’s income becomes normal and even improves. Also, the company even can get out of the crisis,” elaborated Sukron.
Besides serving as a commissariat member, Sukron was also active in politics and youth organizations while doing business in the construction sector. Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Youth Center in the Energy and Mineral Resources Affairs. Sukron obtained the position due to his professional leadership skill since he was a student several years ago.
“During my college life, I was an active student who participated in both intra-campus and Muhammadiyah autonomous organizations such as Student Department Association, Student Senate, and Muhammadiyah Student Association. Throughout my participation in organizations, I was also entrusted to be the Chairman of the Malang Muhammadiyah Student Association Commissariat. It has become the strong reason why I am in the current position,” said Sukron.
Though he had numerous agendas, the young Sukron never ignored his academic performance. As a mechanical engineering student, he succeeded in graduating on time with a good grade-point average. Sukron also successfully continued his master’s and doctoral’s degrees through scholarships.
“I think it is useless if students spend their time for academic only, whereas both academic and non-academic skills must balance. Academic competence can personally hone knowledge, while non-academic one can improve soft skills. One of the soft skills needed in society or workplace is leadership ability. It should be consistently trained as early as possible,” uttered he.
He expects young people to be able to improve their capacity and potency. If they improve them well, success will approach them eventually. “I am proud of studying at UMM. I can learn many things and its alumni become great people. Hopefully, youth can learn many things diligently in order to be a great future leader,” Sukron ended his statement. (imh/zak/wil)
