The number of Covid-19 case statistics, which are increasing day by day, brings concern in many ways, especially in meeting food needs. We as a consumer, society must be more careful in choosing the food we consume every day.
Lecturer from the Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Ary Bakhtiar carried out community service with two of his students, Arifiyan and Fidela, introducing vegetable farming using simple hydroponic media to the children of the Ulil Absor Orphanage, Dau District, Malang, Monday (10/12).
Hydroponics is a farming system using water and additional nutrients. "With materials that are easy to obtain, we can grow our vegetables which later will produce our vegetable crops," said Ary Bakhtiar, as UMM Lecturer as well as a presenter.

Materials such as small water tubs, net pots, Rockwool, flannelette, plastic impraboard covers, vegetable seeds, water, and nutrients are just examples of the simple hydroponic installation. This material can be replaced with other materials such as used glass mineral water wrappers, used clothes or buckets, and others.
Apart from being easy to apply, the crops are also safe for consumption. The enthusiasm of the UlilAsord Orphanage children in learning hydroponics is very high. They even fought during the practical session.
Muhammad Fajar Hidayat is a representative of the Ulil Absor Orphanage Foundation, expressed his gratitude to the UMM Agribusiness lecturers and students for their knowledge. "It is very useful can be used for children's activities in their spare time, and also the results can be consumed by ourselves we can sell it," said Fajar.
This service program aims to maintain independent household food security. That way, it is hoped that it can be done and can meet daily needs, especially food needs. (apg/can)
