The advancement of an association not only is triggered by idealism but also by its members, as delivered by the Chairman of the Association of Leaders of Indonesian Law Colleges, Prof. Dr. Edy Lisdiyono, SH, MCL, Ph. D. He attended the national work meeting and the socialization event of guidelines for preparing the Past Learning Recognition at the Faculty of Law of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Dozens of university representatives throughout Indonesia joined the meeting held on February 17.
Edy said that the national work meeting aims to facilitate the faculty of law department staff to gain a guideline, especially related to Past Learning Recognition (PLR). The activity of PLR has been running for two years, and now the Faculty of Law of UMM has a chance to direct all Indonesian law college chancellors in the guideline creation.
In his view, each member of the Association of Leaders of Indonesian Law Colleges must actively promote the association itself because it can affect the development of the faculty of law of every university. In the future, this kind of national work meeting will be held nationally and regionally. Hence, each activity will specifically focus on the west, middle, and east areas so that organizational consolidation of each region can run well.
On the same occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of UMM, Dr. Tongat, S.H, M.Hum., attended the prestigious meeting. He hopes that this national workshop can make an outstanding contribution, both it is a beneficial program or innovation, including the intention to advance universities through discussion and mutual sharing activities.
The Vice Rector IV of UMM. Dr. Sidik Sunaryo, S. H., M. Si. also expressed the same idea. He delivers that this association has an excellent duty since it cannot be measured in any way. “I think it is not easy for universities that have a law faculty to run this association because legal studies are uncertain, but it must be ensured to be fair. Therefore, every university must have a curriculum and an educator who can explain it”, explained Sidik.
He also explained that if certain law faculties apply progressive legal spirit, then their curriculum and learning method will portray the spirit, and so will its graduates, who will bring progressive legal energy into their daily life.
Universities are demanded to have professional lecturers and academicians. Sidik mentioned that the lecturers could be considered professionals with academic certifications. Meanwhile, academicians can be graded from their position, like serving as lecturers, with the specific criteria of having reputable academic publications.
“With the criteria of such lecturers, then, it depends on how we design the curriculum and the learning system so that it can generate excellent and professional graduates,” asserted Sidik.
Lastly, he wants APPTHI to give ideas and is significantly progressive, especially for those who aim to build human civilization and the nation through law faculties in various universities in entire Indonesia. (imh/zak/wil)
