UMM Nursing Department got 3rd place in East Java Ners Competency Test

The Nursing Department of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) got the third place in the competency test for East Java regional nurses for the period of October 2018. This good news was delivered directly by the Dean of FIKES UMM, Faqih Ruhyanudin, M. Kep., Sp. Kep.MB after attending a meeting of the Nursing College and Leadership Foundation / East Java LLDIKTI in Surabaya, Friday (1/2).

 

This award was given by the Association of Indonesian Ners Education Institutions (AIPNI) Regional IX East Java. The details of the number of participants took the exam from the UMM Ners Department as many as 58 participants, with a percentage of 97 per cent graduation in the October 2018 period. For 2 consecutive years, UMM Nursing Undergraduate department was always consistent in the top 3 in East Java.

In the previous period, it was March 2017 3rd ranked, August 2017 2nd ranked, March 2018 3rd ranked, and October 2018 3rd ranked. With an average percentage above was 95 per cent. This ranking was based on 50 universities that were registered in the AIPNI Regional IX East Java. At the national level, UMM Nursing Department was ranked 12th with graduation percentage 96, 55%.

"UMM Nursing Undergraduate Department is determined to produce professional and competent Bachelor of Nursing graduates with intellectual strength, spiritual depth, high moral and reliable skills. The consistency of our top 3 in this competency test as part of our efforts to make it happen," explained the Head of the Nursing Undergraduate Department, Nur Lailatul Masruroh, MNS.

The learning model paradigm, continued Nur, was with the principle of Student-Centered Learning (SCL) which consequently was the lecturer as a facilitator and motivator. It was by providing several learning strategies that allowed students and lecturers to choose, find and compile knowledge and how to develop their skills or method of inquiry and discovery.

Nur continued, the process which was currently being activated by UMM Nursing Department at the academic level to prepare students to be able to compete at the global level. Among them through a strategy to strengthen foreign language skills. It was by the existence of the Foreign Language for Specific Purposes (FLSP) courses, and English for Professional Nurses (EPN), Japanese.

Research-based learning increased foreign cooperation to channel alumni. Among them with the Japanese, it was Meito Care. Meanwhile Taiwan with Taipei Medical University and National Cheng Kung University. "In addition, Nursing Department also reactivates student and lecturer exchange programs with nursing institutions abroad," said Nur.

Whereas to increase the graduation rate in the competency test at the level of professional learning Nursing Department designed a learning system in such a way. Among them was bedside teaching, meet experts, direct observed practice, mini clinical exams, journal analysis and exam finals, and collaborate with several major hospitals in various cities in East Java.

"It is in Malang, Bojonegoro, Lamongan, and health centres in Malang City as a vehicle of practice that provides quality learning experiences for students. Another strategy is to intensify debriefing to face the national competency test through an internal tryout. Both online and CBT, as well as external tryouts or try out national competency tests, "said Nur. (Win)
