The English Language Education Department of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) succeeded in getting A Accreditation after it was officially announced by the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN-PT) on December 20, 2018.

Previously, this department had received an A accreditation in the 2008-2013 period and had dropped to B. However, the A accreditation was successfully recovered.

Puji Sumarsono, S.Pd., M.Pd., as Secretary of the English Language Department, said that the hard work of the Study Program to get this accreditation was actually the desire of all academics.

Many assessments from BAN-PT which underlie them give A accreditation to study programs that have obtained an operating permit since March 9, 1984. At least 7 aspects were assessed in the accreditation process yesterday.

"That are the vision, mission and governance, student affairs, human resources, curriculum, facilities and infrastructure, service research and collaboration," said Mr Puji.

Continued by Mr Puji, the BAN-PT and its assessors have several times gone down the field to assess whether the UMM English Language Education Department really can get an A accreditation.

According to Mr Puji, in the future, the English Language Education Department of UMM will continue to make developments so that they can maintain their accreditation.

"Among them are expanding partnerships for universities abroad to exchange lecturers and students, and trying to get accreditation at the international level," explained Mr Puji.

The facilities also did not escape the attention of the UMM English Education Department. This study program will add several special courses and make 3 courses.

"This course is initially only taken by students according to their concentration. Then, it is made a compulsory subject for all students. That is English for Young Learners (EYL), Business English (BE), and Translations, "he explained. (win)
