University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) continues to strive to improve the knowledge and capacity of its students, both through national and international experiences. This time, 93 White Campus Psychology students took part in the credit transfer program at Asia University, Taiwan. The program results from the collaboration between the Faculty of Psychology UMM and Asia University and has been carried out online for one semester since last February.
Muhammad Salis Yuniardi, M.Psi, P.hD., as the Dean of Psychology UMM, explained that this program aims to add international experience for students. Besides that, it is also a form of internationalization of the program and increasing rankings both cognitively and competitively. "Opportunities like this need to be maximized by the participants because it will provide a lot of experience and new input for the experience and the learning process," he said.
Furthermore, he explained that students who took part in this program could study in two classes at Asia University, Taiwan. The two courses in question will teach the Mental Health Community Class, which discusses handling a community, and the Financial Behavior Class, which examines how human economic behavior is carried out. Interestingly, both courses are new things to learn.
According to him, the participants will feel several differences in learning methods. For example, students must pour knowledge and experience from the material into themselves. "Although we have to adapt, the method applied is considered quite easy to understand for most students," he added.
Salis, his nickname, revealed that this program has been running since 2019. This year, the program is implemented offline and sends students directly to Taiwan. However, it was stopped due to Covid-19 and returned to running online in the middle of 2020.
"According to the report, one of the obstacles faced by the participants was the difficulty of understanding the Taiwanese-accented English of the lecturers and students of Asia University. But over time, the participants felt that what could face these obstacles," he said.
The lecturer from Madiun hopes that students' interest in international programs will increase thanks to this breakthrough. Besides that, it can also attract international students to come to UMM to encourage the attractiveness of UMM Psychology international classes for foreigners. (apg/wil)
