Guests’ enthusiasm was visible when the CoE English for Hospitality student interns of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) performed their skills. The performance was part of the Professional Internship CoE English for Hospitality by UMM's English Language Education (ELED). On the same occasion, the World of Business and Industry (WBI) representatives and senior high school teachers through Greater Malang attended the agenda held on August 10.
In delivering his opening remark, the Head of ELED UMM, Drs. Jarum, M.Ed., said the CoE participants are the English students who have been selected optimally. They also have been equipped theoretically and practically.
“Alhamdulillah, 29 students are finally selected because they have stable endurance to survive in this CoE class. Next, they will immediately work in real life by the next semester at the WBI places, which have established partnerships with UMM, such as Samara Hotel & Resort Batu, The Onsen Hot Spring Resort Songgoriti, Aston Inn Batu, etc,” said Jarum.
Moreover, he explained that the CoE English for Hospitality is not only designed to equip students theoretically and practically but also targets the intern students for being directly recruited by UMM’s partners. Additionally, this professional class continues to develop its partnerships with Surabaya, Yogyakarta, and Bali, so will be 13 partners associated with this program.
“We are also establishing partnerships with vocational high schools in Malang. That way, there will be more human resources that can be directly hired by the industry. Soon, we will also offer a new CoE program: English for Young Learners,” added the Head of ELED UMM.
On the other hand, the General Manager of Samara Hotel & Resort, Arif Purnomo Saputra, appreciates this internship program. He believes this CoE class can help students in theoretical and practical learning, especially in hospitality.
“I am surprised because the participants are enthusiastic about following the series of activities. Now, they can do the greeting, smiling, and grooming well. The students have understood that working in hospitality is a must-excellent job,” said Arif.
Arif expects these intern students to be able to apply the knowledge they acquire. If they perform their duties well, it does not rule out of possibility that the participants can be directly recruited.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector I of UMM, Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Si., said that the CoE program by UMM is designed to answer the challenges of higher education development. This is also UMM’s measure to ensure a comfortable learning environment, competition, and job security.
“Congratulations for CoE English for Hospitality by UMM. Keep it up and do your best to intern in the WBI partnerships, we hope you continue to maintain the reputation of the White Campus UMM,” concluded Vice Rector I. (imh/zak/wil)
