The Agenda of Master Level Course (MLC) Human Rights (HAM) and Syariah which was held by the Center for the Study of Religion and Multiculturalism (Pusam) postgraduate of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) entered the third phase, namely the research presentations. The event took place over two days (22-23 / 9) was a continuation of courses which was given to 24 young researchers who was selected on May 30-June 3.
UMM 1st Vice Rector Prof Dr Syamsul Arifin, MSi explained, MLC was a short-term study program like master level which focus on contemporary issues surrounding human rights and sharia. The agenda has been Implementing since 2011, till now MLC program has sixth generation. MLC program consists of a week-long courses, and three months researching related to human rights and sharia, which further The program was a result of cooperation Between UMM Postgraduate and Oslo Coalition, an organization which working in the field of human rights and religious freedom under the Faculty of Law University of Oslo, Norway, and the International Center for Law and Religion Studies, American Brigham Young University. This year MLC themed Sharia and Human Rights, Background and Core Issues in Contemporary Indonesia.
There were three experts who act as assessors in this presentation, namely UMM 1st Vice Rector Prof Dr Syamsul Arifin, Program Officer Islam and Development of The Asia Foundation Dr Budhy Munawar-Rahman, and a Lecturer of Faculty of Law UMM Cekli Setya Pratiwi SH LLM. In the next the best young researcher will be sent to Norway attending advanced level courses.
UMM Pusam Staff, Hashim Musthofa asserted, MLC, attended by participants after taking selection tightly. “Praise be to Allah, the participants’s enthusiastics are increased every year. This year, there are more than 40 applicants. Firstly, they should follow the administration selection, and making a motivation letter, " Hashim explained.
Not only that, the idea of what researching would be taken in the second phase should be revealed in the first by collecting administrative files. Until the third phase, remaining 24 participants who have completed sent the resume of research, and 20 of them came to do a presentation.
Hasyim said, MLC aimed to unearth and spread to the public that between sharia and human rights were related each other. The MLC’s alumnis were active in various lines. There was a team conflict mediation in the case of multiculturalism, peace activist, educator of diversity issues, researchers, and educators. Hashim hoped, MLC able to became a tool to boost the UMM internationalization program through the development of transnational relations with various academics, both nationally and internationally.

The campuses including the Central European University Hungaria, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, University of Sultan Zainal Abidin Malaysia, Gadjah Mada University, University of Indonesia, Airlangga University, Sebelasa Maret University (UNS), State Islamic University (UIN) of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, UIN of Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, UIN of Sunan Ampel Surabaya, UIN of Alauddin Makassar, UIN of Maulanan Malik Malang, State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin (SMH) Banten, University of Islam Darul Ulum Lamongan, Brawijaya University, and UMM.
